Prairie Dawn

A belated Happy New Year to all my blog friends! I’ve settled into the Center for Benedictine Life at the Monastery of Saint Gertrude for another winter. The monastery rises above Idaho’s Camas Prairie, which stretches toward distant snowcapped mountains. A few days ago, on a frosty morning, we were blessed with a glorious, flamboyant sunrise. The colors evolved from moment to moment. Over forty minutes elapsed from my first fiery glimpse of “dawn’s early light” until the sun emerged above the horizon. I’m hoping to share the experience with each of you through my latest Mindful Minute (in the interest of full disclosure, it’s actually a minute and forty-six seconds):

I’ll be at the monastery until early May, working to develop eco-spirituality programming. For any of you who may be interested, I’m offering a retreat from April 25-27, The Passion of the Earth: Living into the New Creation Story.

In the meantime, I encourage you to step outside to savor winter’s austere beauty!
